Saluda Real Estate

Saluda,

Saluda first founded in 1878, might at first glance look like many small towns. But with its historically restored main street, surrounded by beautiful scenery and a mountainous backdrop, you will quickly feel the charm in the 700-resident town.

Since the 1800’s Saluda has been a popular town to visit. Attractions include Pearson’s Falls and the Green River Gorge. For the outdoor enthusiast there is something for everyone. Our favorite is, a tube float down the Green River.

Saluda was founded in 1878. Saluda came about with the building of the Spartanburg and Asheville Railroad. The railroad ran through the crest of the Saluda Grade. This was said to be the steepest mainline railroad track in the Eastern United States. With the railroad, came businesses and an early wave of summer home seekers looking to escape the heat of North Carolina. In the early days Saluda boasted more affordable boarding houses. The area developed a reputation as a cool mountain resort town. For the earliest of settlers here, Saluda offered health benefits for those who came.

Take a walk-through Saluda today and you can still find names like Pace’s General Store 1899 or Thompson’s Store and Ward’s Grill 1892. Some would say so much has changed, but the true feel of this tiny quaint piece of America is still alive and well.
